Quite a few manufacturers make pool and spa pumps. And each of them offers multiple models, most of which, in turn, come in different horsepower versions. And while the vast majority of pumps work both in pools and spas a few pumps (and accessories) are designed for spas only.

As with pumps, you have a staggering variety of swimming pool and spa filters to choose from. But this time you also have the three distinct types of filters: sand/media, cartridge and diatomaceous earth (D.E.) compounding your dilemma. The best type for you depends on how you use your swimming pool and how much maintenance you're willing and/or able to do.
There are literally hundreds of replacement cartridge filters of varying capacities on the market. And even though you might choose the right size, the coupling could be off by a few millimetres, just enough to keep it from functioning properly.

You can choose either a salt chlorine generator or liquid chlorine feeder to help keep your swimming pool clean and free of algae.
Salt. Salt-water chlorinators automatically transform small amounts of any standard pool salt into chlorine. Completely automatic, salt-water chlorinators are ideal for plaster, vinyl or fiberglass swimming pools up to 150,000 litres.
Liquid doser pumps. Liquid chlorine feeders pump chlorine from a storage drum into your pool. Not only does this remove the messy chore of pouring the chlorine into the pool, it also ensures accurate chlorine levels.
Pool cleaners can be divided into four categories:
Booster pump-driven cleaners. Popular examples include Aqua-Quip's Legend Truck, Legend Platinum and Jet Vac as well the Polaris 280.
Pressure side cleaners. The Aqua-Quip Legend 2 and Polaris Vac-Sweep 360 are pressure side cleaners.
Suction cleaners. Among the more popular suction cleaners are several from the Kreepy Krauly and Baracuda ranges along with the Hayward Navigator.
Robotic cleaners. These allow you to program their cleaning patterns. Although they've been around awhile, only recently have they become affordable. Hurlcon and Poolrite make robotic cleaners.
You can significantly reduce swimming pool heating costs by installing a solar pool heater. They're cost competitive with both gas and heat pump pool heaters, and they have very low annual operating costs. Actually, solar pool heating is the most cost-effective use of solar energy in many climates.
